Visit Praa Sands
Praa Sands is a beach and village on the coast in Mount's Bay, south-west Cornwall, with Marazion and Saint Michaels Mount to the west and the Lizard peninsula to the south-east.
The position of Praa Sands, south-facing with a mile-long sandy beach suitable for both swimming and surfing, makes it a popular summer destination. Cafes etc are found behind the beach and lifeguards are also present to supervise during the tourist season.
You can head towards the cliffs at the ends of the beach to hunt for wildlife in the rockpools, or perhaps explore the sand dunes that stand behind most of the beach - the dunes form part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest for the plant and animal life that are found here..
Near to Praa Sands, Pengersick Castle is claimed to be the most haunted building in England, and is an impressive structure of two adjacent towers surrounded by gardens. The castle is open by appointment only, ask locally for details.
Like most places on the Cornwall coast, Praa Sands is on the south-west coast path so lovely coast walks can be enjoyed in both directions.
You can find more local travel ideas in the Cornwall guide and the Cornwall guide.
