Visit Kingswear
Kingswear is a small town on the Dart estuary, south Devon, just across from larger neighbour Dartmouth. Regular ferries operate between the two towns.
Although smaller than Dartmouth, Kingswear has most facilities you will need and a good selection of pubs etc.and some grand Victorian villas and is well worth a visit.
Visit Kingswear
The Paignton and Dartmouth Steam railway (Dart Valley Railway) finishes in Kingswear and the route between Torbay and Kingswear is very popular with visitors (Note if you are coming on this train from Paignton or Torbay, there is also a ferry across to Dartmouth Railway Station - perhaps unique in being a train station where trains have never actually arrived!).
Note also the 15th century fortress of Kingswear Castle (not open to the public) that once helped defend the entrance to the River Dart.
What else to do near Kingswear?
There is a very good National Trust property to visit nearby at the Coleton Fishacre house, a fine example of 1920's 'arts and crafts' architecture and surrounded by extensive gardens containing a very wide range of plants that thrive in the warm microclimate (see National Trust - Coleton Fishacre). This is almost my dream house!
