Visit Eton
The town of Eton is in the county of Berkshire, and on the north bank of the River Thames across from Windsor, west of London in south-west England.
While Windsor (and Windsor castle) attract very great numbers of visitors, a stroll across the river to visit Eton is also recommended: the high Street in Eton features some interesting historical buildings and shops, and there are views back across the river to the castle.
Eton is of course best known for its internationally famous public school (ie fee paying), Eton College - which itself is usually referred to simply as Eton...Eton College dates from 1440 and for several centuries has been the school of choice 'for the great and the good' of English society, and a great number of politicians and captains of industry in Britain were educated at Eton.
The fine historical buildings of Eton College itself are also a pleasure to see - the main buildings that can be seen by visitors are the College School Yard, the College Chapel and the Museum of Eton Life - all visits are by Guided Tour (charge payable) - see visit Eton College for details of times and costs.
