Visit Princes Risborough
Princes Risborough is a pleasant market town situated in the area of the Chiltern Hills. In the centre of the town is a fine market hall and surrounding this are a number of attractive buildings.
Make sure you walk down the lovely church lane next to the church. Here you will find theĀ Manor House, a National Trust property, and on the other side of the road the house of the aviator Amis Johnson - a gorgeous brick cottage.
The Manor House was built in the 17th century and inside there is a wonderful Jacobean staircase
All down Church Lane are lots of beautiful houses and at the end of the lane is the local park.
Whilst the town is largely built of red brick the church is covered in the lovely flint which can be seen on quite a lot of buildings in this area.
Princes Risborough belonged to the crown since the time of King Harold. Upon his defeat it passed to William the Conqueror and on to the following Kings who gave it to various members of their family or to their favouritesĀ over the course of time (though it always passed back to the crown upon the death of the individual). It was during its possesion by Prince Edward (the Black Prince) that Risborough became known as Princes Risborough. It stopped belonging to the crown in 1628 when it was sold to cover royal debts.
