Newby Bridge tourist information
The small village of Newby Bridge stands on the River Leven to the south of Lake Windermere.
More or less focussed completely on the tourist trade, Newby bridge is a popular destination with visitors exploring Windermere and the southern Lake district.
It is the bridge itself which is the main monument in Newby Bridge, an attractive stone arched bridge dating from the middle of the 17th century. The bridge crosses the river, which is slow moving and very scenic, with boating and river bathing both being very popular.
There is also a small steam train that runs through Newby Bridge (between Lakeside and Haverthwaite) which is a fun experience for adults and children alike.
